Art comes with a price

Art comes with a price and the price is discipline. In an ideal situation, assuming you have absolutely no other drama going on in life and all you need to do is sit and work on your art, even in this best situation what is required is discipline, routine of creating every single day and making things work. Art is demanding and one undeniable thing is discipline, you need to sit down, create a routine and follow the routine even when you are at your lowest. Great people who have existed and the ones who exist now have one thing in common to say and that is “Take time out and devote it to your art every single day".  Lately, I haven't felt really motivated to do anything but I try my best to be disciplined and put out something and something is always better than nothing. This is one such piece I created out of this mantra, I was not having much of a clue about what I want to create, turned out beautiful. Calligraphy can find its way anywhere, said my teacher and it stuc...

Opening up to art

Art for healing, art for learning, art for protecting. Yes, art is indeed very much used in all these aspects and has proven results ever since. One of the most referred  and famous art forms for all such activities is abstract art as it gives one an opportunity to see the hidden meanings and is a complex art form just like a human being and we as humans have a tendency to appreciate complex things. Art is a blessing to mankind for many many reasons but what we often forget or rather don't acknowledge is opening ourselves to art. It has a simple logic: more time you spend with your art and more you open up to it better will be the results. Talk as much as you can to your art, spend maximum time with your art and create a bond which is powerful and glorious. By art I don't mean just painting or music but the very thing you love to do or you are willing to do, that can be your job, making a meal or your business. Make that conversation happen everyday, ask your work it's req...

Mandala in abstract

Art has been a matter of discussion ever since, that is what art is supposed to do. Especially  if it is abstract art, it must bring out the stories which we as a society try to hide and conceal. Empowered societies and people try to do so but we as humans have it in ourselves to shy  away from the matters which brings discomfort. Whether it is painting, literature or music all the art forms draw our path towards the depth of the world and it's lesser told but needed stories and facts. From time to time art keeps us reminding of the forgotten legends and pinch us to see the truth buried under the sheets of lies and time keeping the world sane and healthy. Hence, if you look a little closer you will find everything to be an amalgamation of rather different things and species. The painting I am talking about today is a kind of one such amalgamation.  When nothing is clear let the things flow they say, this is what I followed for this painting. I put some colors and th...

Art for upliftment

Art has a greater purpose to serve, often more than what we understand. Coronavirus pandemic has surely put hold on many things including our run in and out for work and in a way has provided us an opportunity to reflect on ourselves and make better choices. Things have slowed down and lives have slowed down as well and in a way teaching us upliftment. However, we mostly don't have many choices in our busy schedule and to spare hours for art becomes difficult. So, it is important to create something quick yet beautiful and thoughtful, I call such pieces "art for upliftment".  This collage is of the tiny paintings I make in my diary when I don't have much time. All I use is a brush pen and  handy cake colors. What this does is very interesting, quick results are like mood makers and the bright colors add up to visual appeal. More than anything it gives one satisfaction of having created something, this feeling works like a catalyst for peace of mind. It does not matte...

Nature's touch is miraculous

Abstract paintings seem to be a big deal all the time, but what everybody hides from us is that paintings are the simplest and toughest things in the world. Give some paint or simply a pen to a toddler and she will create a masterpiece on whatever canvas you provide, and often that canvas is a wall! As a child, human being is very receptive and free from What-will-people-say thoughts and that is the reason they are so carefree, try reading their wall paintings and scribbles on newspaper it has a lot to say. Now, I am going to repeat a well-known cliché which is "nature is the biggest art and artist", yes it is but how much do we understand it?  Creating in itself is an enriching process, once we start to create many fears start to blur and this is how creating helps.  The picture you see here was created by my eight years old cousin under my guidance. We were having nothing to do in the lockdown afternoon and were watching our plants in our balcony garden, sunlight was p...

What does abstract tell us?

Art is everywhere they say and rightly so, art is present in every iota of what one see and hear around but the real question is how much does one understand it?  To be able to understand any kind of art the first condition is that you observe the art with keen eye and let it settle inside you and allow the thoughts to bloom in your head.  Do this until the whole process becomes unconscious, isn't that the magic! Allow your creative juices to flow and be receptive to whatever you see around. At the first look abstract painting might look like a mess or shit maybe even worse, so when this happens just tell yourself that,  "Hey I am going to stare at this piece for some time".  This will allow your mind to read the painting and give you some strange, new, inexplicable thoughts and that very moment you might feel like creating one of your own. Well do not try it immediately, let it sink in you and provide yourself with enough material and time to process th...

Mandala and importance of space

Mandala is an art of patience and intricacy. Here it is not bigger the better, instead it's directly proportional to the time you invest in creating it. More you talk to your Mandala more it will open up, it has qualities very similar to us humans. Start talking to your canvas and it will start conversing with you gradually, it loves patience! Mandala loves its space and enjoys privacy like any of us, so here is a little secret about Mandala which I learnt while practicing. "Mandala's success lies in the space left blank." By this I mean that instead of drawing out thousand microscopic lines gives it some space to breathe and allow it to elevate by leaving canvas white.   " It's all black, it is about which space is left blank. Space is important." Leave at least thirty percentage of your canvas blank, doing so will uplift your art. Like humans Mandala too does not like getting suffocated, it enjoys the open air! Mandala grows well when provided with am...

Mandala will make you dream

Mandala remains one of the arts which is untouched despite being decades old. Mandala has found it's significance in various fields and one most associated one is dream, Mandala can make you dream. Dream bigger and purer. Mandala is used in many therapies for healing and the reason I find for it's capacity for healing is that it makes it capable of dreaming. From the first dot you put on the canvas and start to draw and finish it up, it holds you and makes you sit down in the same position for hours and what one unknowingly achieves is stability and focus. It will be safe to say that Mandala is that corner of the city which is considered to be in the city but is an outskirt area or that corner of the home where one feels that yes there is hope left and life will continue. Mandala is magic, mandala is focus. In my previous blog I discussed  fusing arts and this time I tried composing together calligraphy, mandala and the motto of my life. If I could name this Mandala piece it ...

Mandala meets paint

Mandala is a complete art in itself without a doubt but we live in an era where everything is miss matched or fused. Today, from fusion of cuisines to fusion of languages everything can be eye witnessed. Fusion in itself is a rich process, amalgamating different forms and creating a new item is a wonder. In my previous blog I have talked about freedom which Mandala allows and taking advantage of that freedom I thought of incorporating Mandala with some floral art. You can read about Mandala freedom here :  https://artkizubani.blogspot.com/2020/08/what-is-mandala-for-you.html Creating this piece of art made me understand what it actually means to bring together things, it is always about finding a way as I found one here. One does not require huge plans or big investments to bring together an art piece; instead what one need is belief in the process of creation. Nothing turns out cherry and cake in the first attempt, it takes time to go through the process. So, invest in the f...

What is Mandala for you?

Mandala and it's significance can differ from person to person, for me Mandala art is that corner of life where you feel everything will be okay and things will shape itself. It is a space which allows me freedom and never judges my repetition. Simultaneously for someone else it might just another form of design or it might be a thing for killing time for person sitting next to me in metro. Well, that is the beauty of Mandala; you can derive and understand and practice it the way you want.  I have seen many mothers teaching their daughters this art and I often question myself why there so less male participants in this art form, in India this art form is mostly considered gharelu i.e. which remains in home. Digging further into this I got know that in several parts of the country Mandala is practiced by brides to be, these girls go on to hand embroidery Mandala on rather big piece of cloth and later they take this with them as a memory. Here we are not digging into gender rol...

Mandala is more than what we know

Mandala art is one most profound art. Mandala is about creating and breathing in while it is been created. This art is not just good to see and has that good look tag but also the details you will see as you create one or watch one. This is a simple art form which can take creator and viewer both on the journey of an unending starring and gazing. The way you will watch and stare and discover things in a master's painting the same way you will marvel at good mandala.  Mandala is like a Jalebi, it is usually circular in shape and filled with the sweetness of tiny details along with crisp layer of eye catching shapes which are filled inside. Whether you are a master or beginner, if you just have a pen and a paper and some time you can create wonderful Mandalas. Mandalas vary from button size to wheel size or even bigger, so you see how much freedom this art form has to offer! You can choose your own colors and canvas, monochrome is recommended for beginners to avoid any confusio...
