What does abstract tell us?

Art is everywhere they say and rightly so, art is present in every iota of what one see and hear around but the real question is how much does one understand it?  To be able to understand any kind of art the first condition is that you observe the art with keen eye and let it settle inside you and allow the thoughts to bloom in your head.  Do this until the whole process becomes unconscious, isn't that the magic! Allow your creative juices to flow and be receptive to whatever you see around.

At the first look abstract painting might look like a mess or shit maybe even worse, so when this happens just tell yourself that,  "Hey I am going to stare at this piece for some time".  This will allow your mind to read the painting and give you some strange, new, inexplicable thoughts and that very moment you might feel like creating one of your own. Well do not try it immediately, let it sink in you and provide yourself with enough material and time to process the art and then find your inspiration and use it as a medium for communication.

This is a painting which I made recently and took me some months to complete it. Journey started with observing multiple fountains and statues put around in South Mumbai, which got mixed up with sunset colors and ocean waves. Then for months during the lockdown these shades and shapes were cooking in my head and this was the time I was planting one plant with my family in our little balcony everyday to kill the boredom and make some efforts for nature. So, there was greenery in home and flowers were blooming on the day I took some paint and put it on the canvas, there was this beautiful shade of orange amalgamating with green and red. It looked so beautiful that I wanted to keep it the way it was but then I also wanted to elevate it! I picked up my pen and kept drawing fine lines for days and finished it with my favorite element dots and spots. I was overjoyed with what I created. I could see flowers blooming, an elephant eating, a heart beating, far located islands and other times I would just see a unicorn gazing. None of this was a conscious effort but there were memories and images i had seen and it all flew on the paper. Every time I discover something new from it and all the people who have seen this painting in person give their own version of the story the painting narrates to them.

This is abstract painting, it never tells one thing. It is filled with emotions, memories, imagination and inspiration. It does not attract you at the first look but stays forever if you give it some time. It allows thoughts to flow and takes you to the secret places in your own memory and introduces you to the magical and unbelievable possibilities. Moreover, it opens up you to the horizon and helps you to think new, think raw and understand things nothing else can explain. Abstract art is an art of magic, it makes you believe in it.

In the comments below do tell what do you see in this painting and what is abstract art for you. Keep creating!

Art comes with a price

Art comes with a price and the price is discipline. In an ideal situation, assuming you have absolutely no other drama going on in life and all you need to do is sit and work on your art, even in this best situation what is required is discipline, routine of creating every single day and making things work. Art is demanding and one undeniable thing is discipline, you need to sit down, create a routine and follow the routine even when you are at your lowest. Great people who have existed and the ones who exist now have one thing in common to say and that is “Take time out and devote it to your art every single day".  Lately, I haven't felt really motivated to do anything but I try my best to be disciplined and put out something and something is always better than nothing. This is one such piece I created out of this mantra, I was not having much of a clue about what I want to create, turned out beautiful. Calligraphy can find its way anywhere, said my teacher and it stuc...

Nothing is better than a classic

Nothing can beat a classic Mandala. In every art form classics remain unmatchable, the timelessness they have cannot be matched and they seem too far away from hiding any poorly treated but true issues. Their backbone is their mirroring quality and impeccable strength to represent the truth. Like a good movie a good painting will definitely remind you about your life, your struggles, your hesitations and the truth hidden behind the sheets of sugar coated lies.  Best art comes out when you are bound; you are put under a number of restrictions. One flourishes under the pressure, limited resources makes us understand the importance of resources and makes us wiser; this happens because our energy gets focused on those limited things and gives space to organize and use them in the best way. It is a kind of a freedom one feels while working with boundaries. You know how big your arena is and how much you are allowed to stretch. While creating this Mandala, I had nothing in my mind....

Flashback: Mandala the life savior

It has been more than two years since I started making Mandalas. When I drew my first Mandala it was just for fun and the curiosity to create something new, since then Mandalas have been like a friend who is always present to listen to me and hold my hand. Over the time we have developed a bond which imparts energy to me and has become my muse. It has helped me get through my worst and cheered me at my best. Evolving with mandalas has been a thing, it is like a friendship. A kind of a friendship in which you know that there is someone at bay, and no matter if it has been months for years without talking but it is just there unconditionally. For me, Mandalas has been this unconditional love and support. It has taught me not just what it is (what mandala is?) but also helped me in awakening a part of myself which is mostly sleeping.   As it is said that Mandalas are a source of energy in itself and rightly so but to me this art is not just any art but something that holds ...
