Opening up to art

Art for healing, art for learning, art for protecting. Yes, art is indeed very much used in all these aspects and has proven results ever since. One of the most referred  and famous art forms for all such activities is abstract art as it gives one an opportunity to see the hidden meanings and is a complex art form just like a human being and we as humans have a tendency to appreciate complex things. Art is a blessing to mankind for many many reasons but what we often forget or rather don't acknowledge is opening ourselves to art. It has a simple logic: more time you spend with your art and more you open up to it better will be the results.

Talk as much as you can to your art, spend maximum time with your art and create a bond which is powerful and glorious. By art I don't mean just painting or music but the very thing you love to do or you are willing to do, that can be your job, making a meal or your business. Make that conversation happen everyday, ask your work it's requirements and demands and assure it to return all the needs on time. Doing this creates an atmosphere which helps you and your art to evolve and results will keep surprising you.

The above picture is an example of one such incident, I did the background wholeheartedly but something went off while I was writing a phrase on it and made a spelling mistake, this put me off and I hid the sheet under some books as it hurt too much to see a silly mistake on such beautiful paint. Some days later I just took the sheet in my hands and looked at it wondering what can be done and I was able to figure out the relation between my spelling mistake and the small flower like stroke of color on the top left of the page, it is hanging on without any support as if telling me to hang a little longer on this mistake. I did so and tried my best correcting the mistake and now when I look at this painting I find it even more thoughtful and expressive.

Whatever you are doing is your art, love your art and stick to it. The more you talk to it, the more it will open up to you. Keep creating!

Art comes with a price

Art comes with a price and the price is discipline. In an ideal situation, assuming you have absolutely no other drama going on in life and all you need to do is sit and work on your art, even in this best situation what is required is discipline, routine of creating every single day and making things work. Art is demanding and one undeniable thing is discipline, you need to sit down, create a routine and follow the routine even when you are at your lowest. Great people who have existed and the ones who exist now have one thing in common to say and that is “Take time out and devote it to your art every single day".  Lately, I haven't felt really motivated to do anything but I try my best to be disciplined and put out something and something is always better than nothing. This is one such piece I created out of this mantra, I was not having much of a clue about what I want to create, turned out beautiful. Calligraphy can find its way anywhere, said my teacher and it stuc...

Nothing is better than a classic

Nothing can beat a classic Mandala. In every art form classics remain unmatchable, the timelessness they have cannot be matched and they seem too far away from hiding any poorly treated but true issues. Their backbone is their mirroring quality and impeccable strength to represent the truth. Like a good movie a good painting will definitely remind you about your life, your struggles, your hesitations and the truth hidden behind the sheets of sugar coated lies.  Best art comes out when you are bound; you are put under a number of restrictions. One flourishes under the pressure, limited resources makes us understand the importance of resources and makes us wiser; this happens because our energy gets focused on those limited things and gives space to organize and use them in the best way. It is a kind of a freedom one feels while working with boundaries. You know how big your arena is and how much you are allowed to stretch. While creating this Mandala, I had nothing in my mind....

Flashback: Mandala the life savior

It has been more than two years since I started making Mandalas. When I drew my first Mandala it was just for fun and the curiosity to create something new, since then Mandalas have been like a friend who is always present to listen to me and hold my hand. Over the time we have developed a bond which imparts energy to me and has become my muse. It has helped me get through my worst and cheered me at my best. Evolving with mandalas has been a thing, it is like a friendship. A kind of a friendship in which you know that there is someone at bay, and no matter if it has been months for years without talking but it is just there unconditionally. For me, Mandalas has been this unconditional love and support. It has taught me not just what it is (what mandala is?) but also helped me in awakening a part of myself which is mostly sleeping.   As it is said that Mandalas are a source of energy in itself and rightly so but to me this art is not just any art but something that holds ...
