More is better

And before anything else it is a SHE. Once upon a time an evergreen and happy plant came to live with us.  It was a tiny plant with two flowers blooming on her head.  Bright fuchsia pink suited her like the green suits white. She didn’t look very happy as I pulled her apart from her friends and family at the nursery; but somehow I made her feel home. Like a child she adopted the atmosphere and soon was blooming happily with her new friends. Since then she gives out these eye catchy bright colored flowers every single day.   It is a delight to watch them wave and dance in the sunlight while it prepares to bloom for an upcoming day. Whether it is summer, winter or monsoon she does not give a damn and produces color round the year. Maybe,  she likes my smile when I look at her every morning.

Not to forget that she is the most flexible lady I have met, she was given a home in a discarded dish wash container and how brilliantly she made it her home giving this container a new life.  I am telling you all these for a reason, a very good reason. A month ago, this very cute creature called squirrel cut a branch of her and it fell in balcony of a neighbor who lives below us. Completely unaware about this incident I kept watching her every morning with a thought that why does she look a bit thinner! A part of her body was cut off and she didn’t even complain and kept blooming and gave out two more branches as if accepting her fate. This is how she is, she only knows how to thrive.

Now, some days back I went visit this downstairs one neighbors, basically to see their plants and what I saw there was a shock in a surprise for me. She was happily nodding at me, welcoming me her new home. It was when I was chatting with Dadi there, she told me that a branch came in from your home and she planted it without expecting much. To her surprise this broken branch adopted the new soil and water. Dadi told me this with such a big smile that it just made my day. Since that day, I gave them names. One at our place is called Badi (elder) and the one which bloomed from broken branch is called Chhoti (younger).

Today, months later Chhoti craned herself out of railing and waved at Badi with her fuchsia pink flowers. Since then Badi has been dancing and I am telling her that dude you are going to exhaust yourself!

See, this is the thing about life. No matter how much you broken you are but with efforts and faith you can always choose to bloom and it only gets easier when you have someone to water you every day. Have you ever experienced such a thing or through similar incident? Do let me know in the comments. Also, what are your thoughts of Badi and Chhoti?

Oh yes, you have been wondering which plant is Badi and Chhoti ; well she is my all time favorite plant called Vinca. In Hindi they call her Sadabahar (so true right!) and Gujarati we call her Baarmasi and how as a kid I use to think that this plant must be having 12 masis (aunts).

So, this is my badi...... ( also, try to spot Chhoti!)

And this is my Chhoti.......

Art comes with a price

Art comes with a price and the price is discipline. In an ideal situation, assuming you have absolutely no other drama going on in life and all you need to do is sit and work on your art, even in this best situation what is required is discipline, routine of creating every single day and making things work. Art is demanding and one undeniable thing is discipline, you need to sit down, create a routine and follow the routine even when you are at your lowest. Great people who have existed and the ones who exist now have one thing in common to say and that is “Take time out and devote it to your art every single day".  Lately, I haven't felt really motivated to do anything but I try my best to be disciplined and put out something and something is always better than nothing. This is one such piece I created out of this mantra, I was not having much of a clue about what I want to create, turned out beautiful. Calligraphy can find its way anywhere, said my teacher and it stuc...

Nothing is better than a classic

Nothing can beat a classic Mandala. In every art form classics remain unmatchable, the timelessness they have cannot be matched and they seem too far away from hiding any poorly treated but true issues. Their backbone is their mirroring quality and impeccable strength to represent the truth. Like a good movie a good painting will definitely remind you about your life, your struggles, your hesitations and the truth hidden behind the sheets of sugar coated lies.  Best art comes out when you are bound; you are put under a number of restrictions. One flourishes under the pressure, limited resources makes us understand the importance of resources and makes us wiser; this happens because our energy gets focused on those limited things and gives space to organize and use them in the best way. It is a kind of a freedom one feels while working with boundaries. You know how big your arena is and how much you are allowed to stretch. While creating this Mandala, I had nothing in my mind....

Flashback: Mandala the life savior

It has been more than two years since I started making Mandalas. When I drew my first Mandala it was just for fun and the curiosity to create something new, since then Mandalas have been like a friend who is always present to listen to me and hold my hand. Over the time we have developed a bond which imparts energy to me and has become my muse. It has helped me get through my worst and cheered me at my best. Evolving with mandalas has been a thing, it is like a friendship. A kind of a friendship in which you know that there is someone at bay, and no matter if it has been months for years without talking but it is just there unconditionally. For me, Mandalas has been this unconditional love and support. It has taught me not just what it is (what mandala is?) but also helped me in awakening a part of myself which is mostly sleeping.   As it is said that Mandalas are a source of energy in itself and rightly so but to me this art is not just any art but something that holds ...
