Mandala finds a way

Mandala always finds its way to show up and make the mark. Mandala can literally fit in anywhere and lit up the space. Our elders always teach us to shine and befriend people who are best in their fields, kids are always told to bond with topper of the class and observe their habits. The deal is simple, we always tend to appreciate and look forward to the best of things and we imitate them, it comes so naturally to us that we hardly even notice. We start imitating our role models, it is a systematic act of being human! This brings me to a point: we always try to find the easiest way out and in doing so we start copying others, especially the successful ones. This slowly starts to degrade the creative side of our mind and we become computers from a human. Best thing one can do to prevent such degradation is to keep experimenting. One should learn from the best people around, look at their journey and their process of doing things.

This little painting is inspired by the Pothos plant hanging on my window. I look at it almost all day and love how it dances with wind. For a long time I wanted to create a replica of it to see how it goes, but I am no perfectionist in live painting, so I closely observed how it falls and how each leaf manages to turn in the direction of sunlight. Then I had my Mandala so I just went ahead and created tiny mandalas on leaves. Painting went well and now I have two Pothos to admire! This is what I call adding your own essence, it changes the whole perspective of how something will look and the same time one creates the original expression.

I call this painting "Dancing Mandalas"! Such little ways of looking up and creating new expressions fills us with joy and satisfaction. It is better than mere imitation and it is healthy for creative juices to flow.

In the comments below do tell your story of creation and how did this Pothos enchant you? Keep creating.

  1. This is the most different and unique out of all and it's so interesting how you have juxtaposed the both entity. I really like the fact how you have treated each leaf with different mandala. Great! :)

  2. Very well explained. The point here is that we should take inspiration from the best but we tend to imitate them which finally leads to disappointment at some level. One's originality or you can say individuality is lost in this process !

Keep up the good work !!

Art comes with a price

Art comes with a price and the price is discipline. In an ideal situation, assuming you have absolutely no other drama going on in life and all you need to do is sit and work on your art, even in this best situation what is required is discipline, routine of creating every single day and making things work. Art is demanding and one undeniable thing is discipline, you need to sit down, create a routine and follow the routine even when you are at your lowest. Great people who have existed and the ones who exist now have one thing in common to say and that is “Take time out and devote it to your art every single day".  Lately, I haven't felt really motivated to do anything but I try my best to be disciplined and put out something and something is always better than nothing. This is one such piece I created out of this mantra, I was not having much of a clue about what I want to create, turned out beautiful. Calligraphy can find its way anywhere, said my teacher and it stuc...

Nothing is better than a classic

Nothing can beat a classic Mandala. In every art form classics remain unmatchable, the timelessness they have cannot be matched and they seem too far away from hiding any poorly treated but true issues. Their backbone is their mirroring quality and impeccable strength to represent the truth. Like a good movie a good painting will definitely remind you about your life, your struggles, your hesitations and the truth hidden behind the sheets of sugar coated lies.  Best art comes out when you are bound; you are put under a number of restrictions. One flourishes under the pressure, limited resources makes us understand the importance of resources and makes us wiser; this happens because our energy gets focused on those limited things and gives space to organize and use them in the best way. It is a kind of a freedom one feels while working with boundaries. You know how big your arena is and how much you are allowed to stretch. While creating this Mandala, I had nothing in my mind....

Flashback: Mandala the life savior

It has been more than two years since I started making Mandalas. When I drew my first Mandala it was just for fun and the curiosity to create something new, since then Mandalas have been like a friend who is always present to listen to me and hold my hand. Over the time we have developed a bond which imparts energy to me and has become my muse. It has helped me get through my worst and cheered me at my best. Evolving with mandalas has been a thing, it is like a friendship. A kind of a friendship in which you know that there is someone at bay, and no matter if it has been months for years without talking but it is just there unconditionally. For me, Mandalas has been this unconditional love and support. It has taught me not just what it is (what mandala is?) but also helped me in awakening a part of myself which is mostly sleeping.   As it is said that Mandalas are a source of energy in itself and rightly so but to me this art is not just any art but something that holds ...
