Truly a giver

At any given time and at any place in this world someone is killing somebody to survive, whether they like it or not but they are killing. From a Blue Whale to us humans, we live when we kill. Either we slaughter the whole being or scrape the part of the creature because yes, life must go on.  In school we all learnt about the food chain and how the ecosystem works, as we grow the memories start fading, nearly forgetting the base of the food chain. The greens, the plants and trees which form the base are the only creatures in this world that doesn’t kill another living being to grow and survive. Yes, there are some exceptions here as well but do we even count the droplets of water in an ocean! Just like any other afternoon, after filling my belly with food and enjoying the sun shining very harsh from my window in an air conditioned room this thought flew to me. Maybe this came from a Jamun tree who was soaking in the sun, blocking dust and filtering air which we were very busy poll...

Wild wild flower

Just grow a little, step by step every day and bloom in the sunshine is what she whispered in my ears. It’s okay if you don’t make it perfectly but finish what you start, the wind told. Looking at her I realized she truly stands by what she says, drop by drop she kept the waste water absorbing and produced a new leaf every day until she was strong enough to create a flower. It stuns me to see the amount of patience and wisdom these tiny creatures hold in them, they are the one which gives me hope and an instant smile. Here, I am talking about a wild trailing plant which is growing beside the wall of our work place. This little one has very green heart shaped leaves, it gives out paper thin white purplish flowers which are like moonlight shining in the full sun. Just looking at her can bring down the turmoil of thoughts.                                              ...

Wonders of Earth

I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o’er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. (- from “Daffodils” by William Wordsworth)   Every time when I visit a garden or see a tree in full bloom this is the feeling that immediately pops up in my mind. This master of words captured, and how beautifully the power and aura of Daffodils that has remained with me since the school days; obviously it is one of my favorite poems. Anybody who is looking  for soulful words, calming therapy and good literature must read him. As a kid I grew up amid the tall trees and huge farms surrounded by our humble home in the outskirts of Surat city, I dearly reminisce about the memories I made there as a child. Looking at vegetables growing, peacocks flaunting, smelling flowers and plucking up local fruits was a beautiful routine. As I grew up those memories ...

More is better

And before anything else it is a  SHE. Once upon a time an evergreen and happy plant came to live with us.  It was a tiny plant with two flowers blooming on her head.  Bright fuchsia pink suited her like the green suits white. She didn’t look very happy as I pulled her apart from her friends and family at the nursery; but somehow I made her feel home. Like a child she adopted the atmosphere and soon was blooming happily with her new friends. Since then she gives out these eye catchy bright colored flowers every single day.   It is a delight to watch them wave and dance in the sunlight while it prepares to bloom for an upcoming day. Whether it is summer, winter or monsoon she does not give a damn and produces color round the year. Maybe,  she likes my smile when I look at her every morning. Not to forget that she is the most flexible lady I have met, she was given a home in a discarded dish wash container and how brilliantly she made it her home givi...

Bloom when you wish to

I remember how we got you into our home, it was lockdown and everything was shut.  It was a tough time for every one of us.  Things were at complete standby and everything was ruled by fear. None of us were able to decipher how COVID 19 virus operates, all we knew was it is a life taking virus and has absolutely no cure.  Amid that fear, confusion and loneliness came the hope. Sneaking you from a neighboring nursery and repotting you in a paint bucket while the sun went down is one of the best memories I have about the lockdown. The Madhu-malati, the Rangoon , how loved you are! Today it has been nearly two years since you arrived in our home with your greens. As you grew your first new leaf, we all watched you and each one of us had an eye on how you are growing and that was such a feeling. Well, dear Madhu-malati, thank you so much for bringing my family together and making them crane their necks to have a glimpse of you. Days after days and months after mont...

Flashback: Mandala the life savior

It has been more than two years since I started making Mandalas. When I drew my first Mandala it was just for fun and the curiosity to create something new, since then Mandalas have been like a friend who is always present to listen to me and hold my hand. Over the time we have developed a bond which imparts energy to me and has become my muse. It has helped me get through my worst and cheered me at my best. Evolving with mandalas has been a thing, it is like a friendship. A kind of a friendship in which you know that there is someone at bay, and no matter if it has been months for years without talking but it is just there unconditionally. For me, Mandalas has been this unconditional love and support. It has taught me not just what it is (what mandala is?) but also helped me in awakening a part of myself which is mostly sleeping.   As it is said that Mandalas are a source of energy in itself and rightly so but to me this art is not just any art but something that holds ...

Mandala in a hue

Red is color, orange is a fruit and then there is an apple! These little things have become such an important part of our lives, we find them everywhere. They have become an emotion. Red is not just a color, we have made it a love, it has become an eminent part of our love stories! Orange is a fruit, but this fruit has become so important that we have a color named after it. Color of fierceness and sacrifice and then we taste this pretty fruit, sour and sweet and wonder if this is the same fruit  who's color fills us with an uncertain courage! And then we have an Apple, a standard fruit. We all know how important this standard fruit has become an integral part of our lives, it is almost like without an apple there can be some serious disaster happening in our day to day life and stock market and silicon valley can go crazy!  Some things are important by their very nature and some we humans make more important than it is because we see some hidden powers in it. Such is a ...
